The ancient town of Ibaland in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, will be agog this Yuletide season as the Eburu of Ibaland, Oba Prof. Adekunle Adeogun Oyedeji 11, rolls out the drums in celebration of the fifth edition of Yoruba Festival under the auspices of Eburu Adekunle Yoruba Cultural Renaissance.
This was disclosed in a press statement made available to D’GalleryTV by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Fatai Adiyeloja.
During the usually epoch-making annual event which debuted in 2020, culture connoisseurs, historians, frontline academics, traditional rulers thespians, seasoned and budding poets/chanters as well as members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm would converge in Iba to showcase the enviable Yoruba culture.
According to Adiyeloja, Oba Adekunle Adeogun had mobilized human and material resources in putting Ibaland on the global map by unearthing, promoting and sustaining the age-long history, tradition and culture of the Yoruba race as its chief custodian, liveraging the hitherto popular but fast disappearing Oriki Yoruba as the flagship.
“Beyond the artistic expression, Oriki Yoruba has been beaming its searchlight on the tourism potentials of Iba endowed with an avalanche of mountains, flora and fauna,” Adiyeloja said.
“In keeping with tradition, this year’s event will commence with Mountaineering Day on Friday, 13th Dec, while his Majesty Eburu, the Pro-Chancellor Atiba University shall host interested individuals and corporate organizations the world over,” he added.
Enthusiasts who might be keen on savouring the warm hospitality of Iba indigenes would arrive earlier on Thursday, Dec 12.
The yearly lecture which had, in the past, featured Dr. Tunde Adegbola, culture activist and founder Alt-i, Prof. Rom Kalilu, Vice Chancellor Ladoke Akintola University, Prof Siyan Oyefeso, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Gbemisola Adeoti, former Dean, Faculty of Arts, (OAU) and Prof Duro Adeleke of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages will be delivered by Prof, Olukoya Ogen, the Director, UNESCO UNIOSUN Project on Cultural Diversity and Director of Innovation Management, Osun state University, on the D-Day 14th December, 2024 at Iyaniwura Palace, Iba.
Apparently, Iba Town is the place to be this December for a truly thrilling, educative and entertaining Yuletide. It is always an assemblage of starts in the entertainment and cultural landscape which shall feature Pa Olatunbosun Oladapo “Odidere Ayekooto,” a veteran poet who shall join the pantheon of honorees such as Pa Alabi Ogundepo, Ajobiewe, Baba Wande Eesa Iragbiji Muraina Oyelami, a world renowned multi-gifted artiste, Araba Yemi Elebuibon as well as seasoned actor Kola Oyewo.
