Again, Covenant University (C.U), Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, has hit the 1st position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024.
The ranking, which assesses universities across various performance metrics, recognised the university as a leader in higher education, after placing it ahead of other top ranking universities in the country.
The rankings, which surveyed 1,907 universities across 108 countries, evaluated the institutions based on 18 performance indicators across five key areas which include teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Covenant University emerged as Nigeria’s best, after outclassing the University of Ibadan, the Federal University of Technology Akure, and the University of Lagos, which ranked second, third, and fourth respectively.
The 2024 list also indicated a shift in the world higher education landscape, with more than 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications analyzed and survey responses from over 68,000 scholars collected globally.
Other Nigerian universities that made up the top 10 include Bayero University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University. The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta also earned a spot in the top ranking, securing 10th place.
