U.S poll: President Biden withdraws from race…endorses VP Harris for presidential nomination

In a surprise move, the President of the USA, Joe Biden, has announced his withdrawal from the forthcoming presidential election race, after declining his nomination.

The President reflected on the decision to select Kamala Harris as their Vice President in 2020, referring to it as the “best decision.”

The party went on to offer their full support and endorsement for Harris to become the party’s nominee in the upcoming election.

The president urged democrats to unite behind Harris, emphasizing the need to come together to defeat Donald Trump. They also encouraged Americans to support Harris’ campaign by donating via Act Blue.

“My fellow democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President, and it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” he posted on his X account.

This unexpected announcement has sent shockwaves through America’s political landscape and it remains to be seen how this will impact the election.

Biden stated that although he would have loved to contest, for the interest of the country and his party, he was ending his 2024 candidacy.

The development follows weeks of intense pressure from fellow Democrats after a faltering debate performance against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June.

In a letter posted to his social media account, he said it had been the greatest honour of his life to serve as president.

“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden stated.
