Tinubu launches 30 CNG buses in Abuja…says using natural gas to power Nigeria’s transport sector best way to go

In fulfilment of its administration’s promise to proffer solutions to the outrageous cost of fuel and the scarcity of the product crisis faced by Nigerians, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched 30 hybrid-powered Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in Abuja, the nation’s capital. CNG buses are non-PMS-powered vehicles.

The vehicles donated by Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria were unveiled at the State House on Monday.

This was disclosed by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale on Monday.

During the inauguration of the vehicles, Tinubu stressed the urgent need for Nigeria to utilise its splendid natural gas resources in the transport sector.

He added that CNG transport which had the capacity to stimulate economic prospects for the country, marked an enviable shift in the country’s approach to public transport and energy optimization.

“Utilising natural gas to power Nigeria’s transportation industry is the next way to go,” Tinubu said.

The president, however, cited advanced countries, particularly India, which had set precedences by mandating CNG for all commercial vehicles since 2004.

Tinubu pointed out that in Nigeria, commercial vehicles account for about 80% of the country’s petrol demand, costing trillions of naira each month.
