President Bola Tinubu on Thursday congratulated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II on his 50th birthday.
The president congratulated the highly revered monarch as the people of Ile-Ife, and the Yoruba community both at home and in the diaspora commemorated the father of the Yoruba race.
Tinubu extended his birthday message in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bayo Onanuga on Thursday.
In the statement titled: “Tinubu celebrates Ooni of Ife’s 50th birthday,” the president lauded the Ooni’s significant leadership roles and maturity, deep sense of duty, wisdom and knowledge since he ascended the throne at 41.
He also stressed his extraordinary roles as the custodian and preserver of the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the Yoruba people in the ancient city of Ile-Ife known as the source.
The statement read in part: “President Tinubu acknowledges Oba Ogunwusi’s deep sense of duty, wisdom, and knowledge as he fulfils his responsibilities as both the traditional ruler of Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the revered spiritual leader of the Yoruba people.
“The President also recognises Ooni’s critical contributions as the Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, where he serves as a unifying figure, a steadfast supporter of government policies, and a passionate advocate for religious tolerance, peace, and the unification of our nation.”
The president also commended Oba Ogunwusi’s unalloyed advocacy for women and youth empowerment through education and entrepreneurship as well as his laudable philanthropy and consistent commitment to assisting the needy in Nigeria and beyond.
“With heartfelt optimism and support, the President pays tribute to the Ooni for exemplifying the traditional Yoruba values of humility, peace, and generosity while also honouring the dignity and integrity of his exalted throne,” the president stressed.
Tinubu also offered hearty prayers for increased success and prosperity of his (the Ooni) reign, which would surely benefit the people of Ife and the nation.
