The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-rufai has condemned the “fixation” of Nigerians on the religion of political officer holder as “pathetic and sad.”
Governor El-Rurai made the statement on Friday in an interview with channels Television as presidential candidates of each party are on the look out for their running mates
Many Nigerians are already engaged in the political analysis of whom is and is not right for running mates of each notable political party’s presidential candidate.
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku is a Muslim from the North while the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu is a Muslim from the South. It is therefore expected that the PDP’s candidate goes south for a Christian running mate while the APC’s candidate goes north for a Christian running mate.
The governor of Kaduna, El-Rufai’s stance is averse to such choice based on religion as governance business and religion have no place together.
He added that religion will not help heal the wounds of the country instead it is the competency of the leaders elected that will solve the country’s problems.
“I don’t think the business of governance has to do with religion. I think we should look for the best person for the job. The person who will get the job done. …. It is not our religion that will solve our problems. It is people who are competent, capable that will address Nigeria’s problems, unite the country and put it on a progressive path,” he said.
