Parish 2024 Olympics: Behold Nigerians who clinched medals for other nations
At the just-concluded 2024 edition of Olympics in Paris, France, several athletes of Nigerian nationality clinched medals for other countries they represented.
The countries include Great Britain, the USA, Spain, Germany and France.
Their sterling performances earned them individual glory and showcased Nigeria as a country blessed with talents and exceptional skills in the sporting world.
They won gold in shotput, silver in the 400m, hammer throw, and men’s football.
But ironically, the Nigerian contingent failed to win any medal for Nigeria as athletes who represented the country performed woefully in the tournament.
Recall that the last time the country returned from the Olympic Games without a medal was the 2012 edition in London.
Despite having a strong roster of athletes, the closest Nigeria came to winning a medal was in athletics, where a few athletes made it to the finals but failed to finish on the podium.
Recall that Nigeria’s best Olympic performance was the Atlanta ’96 Games, where the nation won six medals, including gold in men’s football and women’s long jump.
The Paris 2024 Olympics ended on August 11, 2024, with the United States leading the medal table with 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze).
China followed closely with 91 medals, and Japan rounded out the top three with 45 medals.
Notably, the host nation, France, finished fifth with 64 medals.
Other countries that made their mark included Australia, Great Britain, and the Netherlands, all of which emerged in the top 10.
