Nigeria to partner Libya against small arms, light weapons proliferation

Towards checkmating the proliferation of small arms, light weapons and trafficking of illicit drugs from Libya to Nigeria, the Minister of Defence, Muhammed Abubakar, has called on the Libyan Government to collaborate with the Nigerian Government to tackle the menace.

Director of Press, Ministry of Defence, Mr Henshaw Ogubike, in a statement, disclosed that the minister made the call when he met with the delegation of Libyan National Security Agency on the sideline of the high-level African counter-terrorism meeting in Abuja.

Ogubike said that the move had become imperative for the safety and stability of both countries and their citizens.

Badaru and the Libyan delegations led by General Mohammed Azain also discussed other crucial security issues affecting both countries.

According to the statement, both states’ officials had also discussed the issue of cooperation, and sharing of intelligence and information that would enhance policy planning and direction among the two countries.
