Miss Universe 2024: ‘I’ve made history,’ says Chidimma Adetshina, first runner-up

Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, Chidimma Adetshina, has expressed a strong delight at her emergence as the first runner-up at the prestigious global pageant held in Mexico on Sunday.

The momentous event which took place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, early Sunday morning, witnessed a keen competition between Nigeria and Denmark which representative, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, clinched the crown.

Victoria Kjaer Theilvig took over from Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Adetshina’s achievement followed a fierce competition among 126 contestants representing countries from across the globe, including 18 African nations.

In an interview shared on X.com by the Miss Universe Nigeria organisation, Adetshina expressed excitement and pride: “I’m so excited. I don’t have words to describe what I’m feeling right now, but I’m so proud of myself, and I just made history!”

Adetshina’s remarkable performance has continued to earn her accolades by her well wishers, judges and audiences.

However, her journey to the Miss Universe stage witnessed some challenges.

Earlier this year, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, where she had advanced to the final stage due to a controversy surrounding her nationality.

But this did not deter her from pursuing her pageant dreams.

Soon afterwards, she got an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria when she represented Taraba State and emerged as the winner.
