Full list of phones that WhatsApp will no longer work on in May 2025
Users of older mobile phones will no longer be able to access WhatsApp from May 5, 2025 because the messaging platform will phase out support for select devices.
This move is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to maintain security and ensure optimal performance across newer hardware and operating systems.
The decision will affect both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business, as both applications share the same system requirements.
According to Meta, the change became necessary to allow the app to continue operating efficiently and securely on the latest devices.
However, a limited number of users, primarily those using smartphones more than a decade old, will be impacted.
iPhone Models No Longer Supported
WhatsApp will cease to function on iOS versions earlier than 15.1. As a result, the following Apple devices will no longer be compatible with the application:
iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
While some older iPhone models can be updated to newer iOS versions, the models listed above are limited to iOS 12.5.7, which falls short of the new minimum requirement.

The iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were all released in 2013 and 2014.
Android Devices Dropped in January 2025
Earlier in the year, on January 1, 2025, WhatsApp also ended support for Android KitKat (version 4.4) and earlier.
Some devices running KitKat may still operate the app if users are able to update their operating systems. However, for phones no longer receiving manufacturer updates, this may not be possible without using unofficial methods, which can be risky.

Users of these devices are advised to upgrade to newer smartphones that support the latest operating systems if they wish to continue using WhatsApp.
