Flood: Dangote donates N1.5bn to Borno victims…visits affected areas

Following the devastating flooding that wrecked havock in Borno and it’s residents on Tuesday, the President of the Aliko Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has donated N1.5bn to the victims of the disaster to provide succour for them.

Dangote disclosed this during a visit to assess the impact of the disaster on the affected areas in the state.

According to him, N1bn was allocated to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with the Borno State Government to provide the succour.

In addition, the Aliko Dangote Foundation also gave N500m in addition to the fund, making it a total of N1.5bn.

The governors of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule were in the company of Dangote during the visit.

While explaining how he was promoted to make the donation, Dangote said NEMA sent a letter to his company, which then approved the money to address the request.

“NEMA wrote us a letter. So, we sat down and approved N1bn to NEMA to work with the Borno State Government,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the Federal Government would continue to provide relief for flood victims in the states severely affected by the flood.

According to him, federal and state governments as well as NEMA were working assiduously to enhance support for displaced communities.

Shettima gave the assurance during an assessment visit to the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

He noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remained committed to effective governance and the welfare of all Nigerians beyond political considerations.

He said, “We are in here at the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give the commitment of the federation government to supporting the people of Niger State towards addressing the food challenges caused by the flood and the insecurity that has been bedevilling this part of the country.

“We have come to reaffirm the President’s irrevocable commitment towards ameliorating the sufferings of our people.”
