FG reverses 18-year age limit for tertiary institution admission
The 18-year candidate age limit for admission into tertiary institutions in the country has been abolished by the Federal Government (FG).
The new Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who announced the abolition on Tuesday, also gave a hint on the likelihood of reviewing the nation’s education policy soon.
Alausa spoke on Tuesday during his inaugural ministerial press conference in Abuja.
He also declared that there would be no reversal of the Federal Government’s decision to invalidate the over 22,700 degree certificates obtained by Nigerians from some “fake” universities in neighbouring Togo and the Benin Republic.
According to him, practical education would help to address the unemployment situation in Nigeria, as tertiary institutions will not continue to churn out graduates every year without providing jobs for them.
The minister also disclosed that the federal government would collaborate with private sector operators to train students and showcase their potentials.
He added that universities of agriculture would be empowered to adopt commercial farming practices to guarantee food production and security.
