Deadly Accident: 25 Lives Lost, Others Injured in Ibadan – Lagos Expressway Tragedy
Tragedy struck on Tuesday along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, near the Agbowo/Ajao area, as a trailer collision resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people.
The trailer, carrying roofing sheets, experienced brake failure and crashed into a Hummer bus, a Micra taxi, and a Honda CR-V car, causing a devastating accident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer’s brake failure led to the collision with the three vehicles traveling in the same direction. The impact was severe, causing significant damage to all vehicles involved. The Hummer bus, which was carrying 18 passengers, was severely damaged, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Motorists who witnessed the accident appealed to the Oyo State government to provide heavy towing vehicles and ambulance buses for emergency situations like this. They emphasized the need for prompt rescue operations to save lives in the event of such accidents.
Additionally, they called on the contractor handling the road construction to open up the other lane that was blocked, which they believed contributed to the accident. The blocked lane has been a concern for motorists, who have complained about the increased risk of accidents due to the reduced road capacity.
Private heavy towing vehicles played a crucial role in removing trapped vehicles from the scene, allowing rescue teams to access the wreckage. Some of the rescued passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention, while others were treated at the scene.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for improved infrastructure. The Oyo State government has been urged to take immediate action to address these concerns and prevent future accidents on the Ojo-Iwo Road expressway.
As the investigation into the accident continues, motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling on the expressway, especially in areas where road construction is ongoing.
