Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed condolences to President Bola Tinubu over the stampedes in Oyo and Anambra states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in which several lives were lost.
In a message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday, he also expressed sympathy with Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra and the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The former president appealed to the leaders to pass on his words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims.
He, however, wished those injured in the stampedes speedy recovery.
Buhari also sympathised with the Catholic community which was also affected.
He also extended his warm wishes to Nigerians on the occasion of Christmas and called on fellow countrymen to imbibe the noble teachings of Jesus Christ.
He also extended his heartfelt wishes to Nigerians, praying that the new year would usher in immense prosperity, peace and good health.
Recall that 10 people, including children, died at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday, while eight others sustained injuries during a stampede at the church premises while jostling for palliative Christmas rice.
About 35 children also died in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday during a fanfare Christmas carnival in a stampede while struggling to assess the venue of the event through the gate school gate.
