Akpabio hails FCT minister…as Tinubu inaugurates B6, B12, Circle Roads Central Area, Abuja

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for entrenching standard infrastructural development at the nation’s capital.

The lawmaker gave the commendation when he represented President Bola Tinubu during the inauguration of B6, B12, and Circle Roads in the Central Area of the FCT on Thursday.

“Nyesom Wike, I congratulate you. You have not disappointed Nigeria and we promise to continue to support you in all you do,” he said.

“I would like to appreciate the minister of FCT and all the stakeholders. Your hard work and high standard of quality have made this achievement possible and as we celebrate, let’s recognize that our work is far from being over. Congratulations to all Nigerians,” Akpabio added.

Wike stated that the leadership style of President Tinubu guaranteed the achievement of desired results in the territory.

He stressed that getting the right results depended on the right leadership.

“Because we have the right leadership, now we are getting the right results,” he noted.

The minister disclosed that the B6, B12 and Circle Roads were awarded on May 14, 2007, at N48.5 billion and revised to N98.8 billion in Jan. 2021.

According to him, the project was ongoing for 17 years, but Tinubu completed it in just one year in office due to good leadership.

He, however, complained that the Ministry of Finance building had encroached into the portion of the road and appealed to the president to intervene, with a view to enabling the contractor to complete the portion of the road.

“There is supposed to be a road from B12 connecting Ahmadu Bello Way by the Finance Bridge, but the Ministry of Finance has encroached into the road,” he said.

“We have pleaded with the ministry to allow us to do the road. We are all working for the same government and we don’t want to use force to go and destroy the building.

“We gave them the land, but they encroached on the way.

“I want to plead with Mr. President to talk to them so that we will be able to complete the road for the interest of the public,” Wike said.

Wike, who emphasised Tinubu’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects in FCT, noted that 58 per cent of the 2024 FCT capital budget was set aside for completion of all ongoing projects.
