The government of Oyo State on Friday excited National Union of Teachers by presenting letters of promotion to 9,220 primary school teachers on grade levels 13 to levels 15.
It was gathered that the Executive Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYO SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran gave more 8000 letters to the beneficiaries in Ibadan.
Dr. Adeniran made it clear that the recipients of the promotion letter are due for promotion being left at the level they were for six years by the previous administration. He further explained that the promotion was in fulfilment of the promise of the governor, Seyi Makinde.
On the other hand, Kaduna State government has declared the immediate dismissal of over two thousand teachers and the National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers.
Reason for this sack was predicated on the refusal of the dismissed teachers to participate in competency test that State Universal Basic Education put in place.
According to the State Universal Basic Education, the test was conducted for over thirty thousand Teachers in December, 2021.
Among those who were sacked, one hundred and sixty five (165) failed by scoring below 40 per cent and others did not participate including the NUT President, Audu Amba.
According to Kaduna state government, qualified teachers would be added to Teacher Professional Development to improve their skills in quality teaching delivery.
