The Federal Government (FG) has declared Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025 as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations respectively.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday.
The minister, who however, extended greetings to Nigerians, encouraged them to imbibe the season’s values as well as the virtues of love, peace and unity preached by Jesus, the reason for season.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He also urged them to strengthen familial and community bonds and foster harmony that contributes to national development.
“The Federal Government is committed to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the nation,” the minister said.
He also expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would propel the country to a more rewarding, progressive and prosperous new year ( 2025).
