Tinubu swears in Kekere-Ekun as 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
This came after her confirmation by the Senate on September 25, 2024.
The new CJN took the oath of office and signed the oath register at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, on Monday.
She succeeds Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who assumed office on June 27, 2022, and retired on August 22, 2024, after attaining the 70 years retirement age.
Kekere-Ekun’s swearing in ceremony was witnessed by three of her predecessors. They include the first female CJN, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Justice Walter Onnoghen as well as her predecessor, Justice Ariwoola.
Some members of her family as well as other justices of the Supreme Court were also present at the chambers to witness the ceremony.
With the Monday oath of office, the new CJN took oath of office for the second time in five weeks.
Recall that Tinubu swore in Kekere-Ekun into office in an acting capacity on August 23 before her confirmation by the Senate on September 25.
