NIWA vows to revitalise nation’s economy through PPPs
The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterway Authority (NIWA), Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has said the agency would synergise more with security outfits to guarantee more patrols on the nation’s inland waterways to boost security for the facilities.
Oyebamji stated this in a statement on Friday during a tour at the Warri and Onitsha Area Offices of NIWA.
According to the statement, Oyebamiji had inspected the Aba and Warri River Port complexes.
“We would be looking at possible ways to increase collaboration with the various security agencies to ensure more patrols on the nation’s waterway,” the NIWA boss said.
Oyebamiji also expressed the need for deeper private sector participation in the blue economy initiative to engender greater benefits for national development.
Oyebamji expressed NIWA’s determination to revamp the nation’s economy by strengthening public-private partnership initiatives.
“This initiative is part of our deliberate plans to open up new opportunities to maximize the full economic potentials of the nation’s waterways,” he said.
He added that the PPP was the way to go as “there is a need for investors who have genuine intentions and purposes to enable us align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic recovery.”
Oyebamji urged NIWA staff to work harder and increase revenue generation base.
The NIWA boss who warned against indolence, stressed that his administration was committed to staff welfare and revenue generation.
“There is a need for the staff to be disciplined and committed by rededicating themselves to the growth and development of NIWA,” Oyebamji stated.
