One week to graduation, varsity student stabbed to death over N150 ‘area boys’ levy

A final-year student of the Niger Delta University, Francis Palowei, was stabbed to death on Monday over N150.00 ‘area boys’ levy.

The late Palowei is supposed to graduate alongside his graduating mates on Wednesday next week before he was hacked to death by the criminals.

The tragic incident occurred in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Community sources, D’GalleryTV gathered, said the victim was at the Sand Dump, a popular spot where he and other fellow students were relaxing and socialising when some youths in the area stabbed him to death after failing to give them N150.00 as ‘area boys’ levy.

Palowei, who hailed from the Obrigbene community in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was expected to graduate on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, when the university will hold its next convocation.

D’GalleryTV gathered that police had already gone into the community and searching for the perpetrators of the crime.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Indoni Engezi, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said that the incident did not affect the institution’s academic activities.

Engezi said the owner of the sand dump does not charge any fees for using the premises, but some youths usually charge N150 for anyone who wants to use the premises.
