About 1,376,391 registered for the ongoing 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)(internal) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
The Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this on Wednesday after monitoring the examination at some centres in Enugu.
The examination commenced on 19th June and will end on 25th July 2024. Candidates are expected to sit for the examination in 76 subjects.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Azeez Sani, the NECO boss, Prof. Wushishi, who expressed delight with the conduct of the examination in the centre, disclosed that reports received from across the nation showed that the examination is going on very well.
Wushishi attributed the success to the various measures put in place to ensure a successful exercise.
He said that examination malpractices had dropped due to some innovations put in place by the Council.
The registrar enjoined candidates to work hard to score good grades in the examination, noting: “There is no shortcut to success.”
Wushishi also disclosed that since the commencement of the examination, he had monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra States to have first-hand information on the conduct of the examination with 1,376,371 registered candidates.”
He said that in all the states visited, the critical stakeholders applauded NECO for the various measures put in place to ensure success of the conduct of the 2024 SSCE.
The Registrar disclosed that the examination is also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia.
Wushishi explained that the extension of NECO examinations to other countries showed the wide acceptance of NECO certificates across the world.
