Aspira Nigeria donates laundromat to Bayero Varsity Kano…It’s our way of supporting students in their academic journey -Manager

Aspira Nigeria Limited, the maker of the popular detergent brand, Viva, has set up a fully furnished laundromat at Bayero University, Kano, where students could enjoy free laundry services while going about their studies.

The company launched its Viva Laundromat project on Tuesday at the university’s old campus, after a similar successful launches at the University of Lagos and University of Ibadan.

D’Gallery gathered that this first-of-its-kind ultramodern facility which contains about 40 washing machines and pressing irons has the potential to ease the burden on students who often struggle to get laundry services while studying.

The General Manager of the company, Abbas Jaafar, said that the initiative was a part of Aspira’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its dedication to the university community.

He added that the company believed in the power of education to shape the future of the nation.

“Supporting students in their academic journey is crucial for building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

While expressing appreciation during the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, highlighted how the initiative would help students to show commitment to their studies.

He also noted that the company had equally donated essential items to the university, including shirts, jackets, raincoats, rain boots, among other items.

The Head of Advertising, Aspira Nigeria, Lynda Aguocha, while inaugurating the project at the varsity, said that the laundromats was a testament to the company’s commitment to making a positive impact on the students’ lives.

“Our mission extends beyond cleanliness. It’s about fostering a sense of community, relieving financial strain and empowering students to focus on what truly matters. In our Viva Laundromats, students will not only find cutting-edge technology and efficient machines, but more importantly, a sanctuary where they can bond and support one another,” he said.

Santhosh Nair, Head Marketing, said: “The laundromats are initiatives that show Aspira’s dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of Nigerian students. They reflect our commitment to giving back to the community and investing in Nigeria’s future leaders.”

Aspira has also announced plans to expand the Viva Laundromat project to the University of Benin, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, University of Abuja and all other universities in the near future.

In her welcoming address, Professor, Binta Jibril emphasized that the facility dedicated to the students would serve as a reminder on the support and investment in the students’ wellbeing and success.

“Let us celebrate this day as a symbol of partnership and progress. Together, we continue to build an environment that nurtures learning, growth and excellence,” she added.

On behalf of the students, the President of the Students Union Government, Comrade Nasir Isa, stated that the facility meant a lot to them as some students always find it difficult to combine laundry services with their academic activities.

He expressed delight that with the free laundry service introduced by Laundromat, students would, henceforth, have more time for their studies and those who can’t afford commercial laundry services would have the opportunity to enjoy a free service.
