Prof. Pat. Utomi, Isa Pantami, Chairman of Punch, Others speaks at public presentation of Technology and development, commend Everest Amaefule

Professor Patrick Utomi who is a political economy and management expert and also a former presidential candidate. The Chairman Punch Newspaper,Mrs Angela Olufunmilayo Emuwa, Federal Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mr Isa Pantami, among other dignitaries honored the book launch Dr. Everest Amaefule held at LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa, Lagos.

The launching of the book titled ‘Technology and development. An African perspective was chaired by CEO Stanbic Ibtc Plc Mr Atedo Peterside.

Speaking at the event, the minister of communication and digital economy Mr Isa Pantami, who was represented by Mrs UwaSulieman said Nigerian must support the good in technology and restrict the bad.

In his words; “Technology is a necessity and the only requirement for relevance in the global scheme of things is technological advancement. As the author illustrates copiously in his book, the flip side of technology can be ugly but we must harness the good and curtail the bad in making the most out of the choices we have.”

Professor Patric Utomi also reiterated that Nigeria must not miss its place in the fourth industrial revolution.

“The key theme of my remarks is the place of the non-techie in the Industrial Revolution; what are we techy and non-techy doing to ensure the competitiveness of this era is not lost?”

The Chairman of the event, Mr Atedo Peterside in his speech described the author of the book as a man of his words.

He said,”I love to encourage people like this; he keeps to his words, he has never told me anything that he has never done.”

The book was reviewed by Prof. Abdalla Adamu, The VC of National Open University, who was represented by Mr. Emma Onyike.

According to Prof. Adamu, the book reveals past concerns about media imperialism an d the clamor for balance, primarily by Africa Countries.

“It highlights that the invention of the Internet and the World Wide Web had, rather than bridge the gap, widened it in favour of providers of information and consumers who had become ‘net importers of information.”
