21 persons drowned in Yobe flood’
Over 21 deaths have been recorded in the flood that has devastating Yobe State since the beginning of the rainy season in May.
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohamed Goje released the figure yesterday at the 2022 Flood Disaster Emergency Coordination Meeting held in Damaturu, the state capital.
The meeting was organised by SEMA and chaired by the Commissioner for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Garba Abubakar Iliya.
Goje said that 21 deaths were recorded from the flood, while 97 people were hospitalised, treated and discharged, adding that 4,095 households were affected.
Dr. Goje said shelter and food items remain the top priority of the displaced population followed by support to farmers and livestock support as well as their health needs.
Dr. Iliya said the state government has responded positively to the flood victims by the provision of shelter, food and nonfood items.
The Nigerian Army Engineers Corps has pledged to rebuild the bridge damaged by the flood.
